According to the complaint filed by the deceased’s family, the attackers are activists of the Bajrang Dal. The police have reportedly booked around 20 people for lynching the victims.
Bhopal: Two men hailing from the tribal community were allegedly beaten to death by a mob over suspicion of cow slaughter in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a third person is reportedly injured and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to the complaint filed by the deceased’s family, the attackers are activists of the Bajrang Dal. The police have reportedly booked around 20 people in connection with the incident.
As per the report, the incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday in Simaria under the Kurai police station where a group of people attacked three tribal men over suspicion of their role in cow slaughter.
Congress legislator Arjun Singh Kakodia led a protest on the Jabalpur-Nagpur highway demanding action against those involved in the alleged murder. Considering the seriousness of the matter, senior police officials rushed the spot.
A police officer privy to the investigation said, “A group of 15-20 people went to the victims’ house, accused them of killing a cow and assaulted them. Two men died while being taken to the hospital and a third sustained minor injuries.” The police further informed that a case has been registered at the Kuarai police station and several police teams have been formed to arrest the accused.
According to reports, some of the accused have been booked under murder charges, some have been named in the FIR while some others have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC. A few suspects have reportedly been taken in custody while 2 kg of meat has been found at the victims’ house.
A Congress legislator claimed the attackers comprised members of the Bajrang Dal and called for a ban on the Right-wing outfit. He also demanded a compensation of Rs one crore for the kin of the victims besides government jobs. He also demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident and swift action against the culprits.
Reacting on the development, former Chief Minister Kamal Nath said strict action should be taken against the accused persons. He tweeted, “Very sad information has been received about the brutal murder of two tribal youths in the tribal block Kurai of Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh. A tribal youth is seriously injured in this incident. It is being said by the family members and the local villagers that the accused are associated with Bajrang Dal.” The former Chief Minister also said NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) data shows Madhya Pradesh is number one among states in crimes against tribals.
