In response to a report stating that a banker who attended Kunal Kamra’s controversial show in Mumbai was summoned as a witness, the comedian took to social media to express his regret for the inconvenience caused to the man and offered him to “schedule your next vacation anywhere you’d like in India”.
He also shared a media report which stated that this banker had to cut his holiday short because of the police summons.
The banker who lives in Navi Mumbai had attended one of the comedian’s controversial shows in Mumbai, and was summoned to testify after a case was lodged against the comedian for his alleged jibes at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, police said on Wednesday.
The banker had booked a ticket for Kamra’s show through the BookMyShow app on March 29, a senior police official said.
What did the police say regarding the summons
As per police, these summons were made in an effort to record statements from witnesses who watched Kunal’s show. Before issuing the notice, the investigating officer had called the banker and requested him to visit the Khar police station, a police office said.
However, following certain developments in the case, the police later informed the banker that his appearance was not immediately required but could be requested at a later stage if necessary.
Kunal Kamra’s Response on Social Media
Kunal Kamra, meanwhile, responded to various media reports that talked about the banker having to cut short his vacation due to the police summons. “I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience that attending my show has caused you. Please email me so that I can schedule your next vacation anywhere you’d like in India,” Kamra posted on X.

According to different reports, the banker was originally scheduled to return from vacation on April 6, but had to come back earlier to Mumbai on Monday due to the summons.
Background
The tiff between Kamra and Shide started from a parody song performed by the comedian at a Mumbai show, which appeared to target the Maharashtra Deputy CM. Shinde was labelled as a traitor. However, the song did not explicitly mention Shinde’s name.
In response to this song, angry Shiv Sena activists vandalised the studio where the show had been recorded last month. An FIR was also lodged against Kamra at the Khar police station on March 28 after Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel had complained against alleged defamation.
On March 28, the Madras High Court granted interim anticipatory bail to Kamra. Justice Sunder Mohan also issued a notice to Khar police and scheduled the matter for further hearing on April 7.
