As per the report, India’s regular captain Rohit Sharma has been reported Covid-19 positive.
New Delhi: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been appointed as a captain of Team India for the fifth test against England. Bumrah will lead India’s test squad in the rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston after full time skipper Rohit Sharma was ruled out from the match. Rishabh Pant has been appointed the vice-captain for the fifth Test.
With the announcement, Jasprit Bumrah (28) has became the 36th test captain of India. Considered one of the best bowlers in modern times, Bumrah is the first Asian bowler to take 5 wickets in a test innings in Australia, England and South Africa during the same calendar year.
As per the report, India’s regular captain Rohit Sharma has been reported Covid-19 positive. His Covid-19 test was conducted ahead of the warm-up fixture game against Leicestershire and his report came positive.
Reacting over the development, Bumrah said that it is a big achievement for him. He said that they had gone through Covid-19 test in which regular skipper Rohit Sharma was tested positive. The team management later told me to lead the team against England. He said that it is a great honour for him to play against England team as a skipper.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in a tweet, said, “NEWS 🚨 – @Jaspritbumrah93 to lead #TeamIndia in the fifth Test Match against England. @RishabhPant17 will be the vice-captain for the match. #ENGvIND.”
With the announcement, Jasprit Bumrah will be the 4th player from Gujarat to lead the team. Vinoo Mankad, Lt. Col. Hemu Adhikari (played 1 match for Gujrat), Nari Contractor had led the Indian teams. Interestingly Bumrah never captained in Ranji trophy.
