Assam Rifles personnel have recovered 1.3 kg of heroin worth Rs 9.6 crore and arrested a Myanmar national for possessing the contraband in Mizoram’s Champai district.
Security forces conducted a search operation in Zokhawthar village, situated near the Mizoram-Myanmar border, on Tuesday. Reports indicate that during the operation, personnel apprehended a smuggler and confiscated contraband from his possession.

The Assam Rifles official stated that the drug was found concealed within 100 soap boxes, and they subsequently apprehended a 35-year-old Myanmar national in connection with the smuggling operation. The individual had reportedly transported the contraband into India from the neighboring country. Following the arrest, both the accused person and the seized drug were handed over to the state police in Zokhawthar for further legal action.

On Tuesday, Assam Rifles seized 936 grams of heroin valued at Rs 6.55 crore and detained an individual in the vicinity of Zokhawthar, Champhai district. As per an official statement, the entire cache of heroin, estimated at Rs 6,55,20,000, along with the apprehended individual, was handed over to the Zokhawthar Police Department for further legal action.
The persistent smuggling of illicit drugs poses a significant threat to the state of Mizoram and the nation at large. The Assam Rifles, aptly dubbed as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast,’ remains steadfast in its efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking. Furthermore, the force has intensified its endeavors to apprehend the masterminds behind the drug trade network operating in Mizoram.
