A 35-year-old woman lost her life, and her nine-year-old son sustained serious injuries during the highly anticipated premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred as massive crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the film’s lead actor, Allu Arjun, and music director Devi Sri Prasad, who were attending the screening.
Chaos erupted outside the theatre when an overwhelming surge of fans pushed against the venue’s main gate, which eventually collapsed under the pressure. The stampede that followed proved fatal for the woman, while her son was rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
Police had to resort to lathi charges to control the crowd, which had gathered not only for the movie screening but also to see the film’s production team. Additional police reinforcements were deployed to prevent further incidents.

Massive Hype for Pushpa 2
Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2: The Rule is the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. The film, starring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil, has been highly anticipated, releasing across 10,000 screens in multiple languages.
Initial plans for a 3D version were scrapped due to delays in post-production, but the movie is available in 2D and 4DX formats. Despite ticket prices being hiked in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana High Court allowed the release to proceed, dismissing objections raised in court petitions.
Police Investigation Underway
Authorities are now investigating the incident to determine if lapses in crowd management contributed to the tragedy. This devastating event underscores the dangers of overcrowding at high-profile events, especially when celebrity appearances are involved.
The injured boy is currently undergoing treatment, and his condition is being closely monitored. Fans across the country have expressed condolences for the family, while some are calling for stricter safety measures at public gatherings.
Pushpa Fever Grips the Nation
Despite the tragedy, Pushpa 2: The Rule has captured national attention with its electrifying performances, larger-than-life storytelling, and music. However, the shadow cast by the Hyderabad incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety in the face of mass fan enthusiasm.
