Bengaluru: Weeks after hijab row, Bible in a Karnataka school classroom has sparked controversy. As per the reports, Clarence high school in Bengaluru took an undertaking from parents that they would not object to students carrying Bible to school premises. The move of school has witnessed sharp reactions from certain groups as they have called is a straight violation of the Education Act of state.
According to the Hindu group members, the school management has been forcing students other than Christian community to read the Bible. Defending the move, the school authority said that it provides a Bible-based education.
The controversy surrounding the hijab row in Karnataka led to several protests, ranging from Muslim students sitting outside classrooms for not being allowed to wear hijabs to Hindu students, backed by Right-wing outfits, barging inside classrooms chanting religious slogans.
Reacting to the order, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had said, “The dress code of school/college must be followed by everyone of any religion.”
Later, Karnataka’s Udupi, the high court had said wearing hijabs is not an essential religious practice and junked the slew of petitions filed by the Muslim girl students of pre university colleges who were opposed to the ban enforced by the state government.
