Bengaluru: A week after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast rocked Bengaluru’s The Rameshwaram Cafe, the founders and staff are back to business. While the renovation and remodelling took a few days, on Saturday morning, the gates were open once again.
On the afternoon of March 1, an IED blast at the café had left at least nine persons injured. While initially it was thought to be a cylinder blast, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that it was an IED blast.
Talking to the media, the co-founders of The Rameshwaram Cafe, Divya and Raghavendra, said they are in the process of hiring ex-Army personnel to look after the security of the cafe.
The Indian Express quoted Raghavendra as saying, “The attack is definitely a wake up call. We have tightened our security which will be foolproof. We are in the process of recruiting retired army officers who will be advising us regularly on security measures. They will be training the floor managers, hotel managers and other staff to be vigil and alert at all times. We have already recruited four of them at our head office,” said Raghavendra.
The newspaper further quoted him as saying, “We have also installed two metal detectors at the entrance and 25 additional CCTV cameras. We also appeal to other hotels and restaurants, with the help of the hotels association, they too should install metal detectors for a foolproof security system. We have also directed our staff to report any bag in the Lost and Found WhatsApp group if left unclaimed for more than 5-10 minutes.”
Meanwhile, metal detectors have been installed to enhance the security at the restaurant.
The development comes three days after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced a Rs 10 lakh reward for any information about the suspect who had kept a bag at the café believed to have stored the IED.
