In a fiery press conference on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of misrepresenting his remarks in the Rajya Sabha and attempting to mislead the public. Shah labeled the Congress as an “anti-Ambedkar” and “anti-Constitution” party, escalating tensions between the ruling BJP and the INDIA bloc opposition.
The controversy erupted after Shah’s remarks in Parliament on Tuesday sparked agitation among opposition members, who demanded his resignation. Addressing the media, Shah clarified his statements, alleging they were distorted by Congress.
Shah Defends His Remarks
Amit Shah emphatically stated, “My statements were misrepresented. Congress spreads fake news. I can never speak against Ambedkar ji.” He further accused Congress of deliberately trying to tarnish his image.
Shah urged the public to listen to his complete remarks to avoid being misled. “They (Congress) distorted my remarks (on Dr. BR Ambedkar) and presented them in front of the public. I urge everyone to listen to my entire remark, it will clarify everything. I come from a party and the society that can never insult Dr. BR Ambedkar even in dreams,” Shah said.

What Amit Shah Said
On Tuesday, Amit Shah made a controversial remark in Parliament: “Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar Bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata.” This translates to: If Congress had taken God’s name as many times as they take Dr. Ambedkar’s, they would have attained heaven for seven births.
Shah argued that the BJP has consistently demonstrated its commitment to protecting the Constitution and Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy, unlike Congress, which he accused of undermining the Constitution by imposing the Emergency.
Congress Demands Shah’s Resignation
Reacting to Shah’s remarks, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called for an immediate apology and resignation. “Our demand is that Amit Shah should apologize, and if PM Modi respects Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, he should be sacked by midnight. He has no right to remain in the cabinet. He should be sacked, and only then will people remain silent,” Kharge said.

BJP-Congress Clash Intensifies
The latest exchange between Amit Shah and Congress highlights the growing animosity between the two political entities ahead of upcoming elections. The BJP has sought to portray itself as a staunch defender of Ambedkar’s values, while the Congress accuses the ruling party of hypocrisy.
