Sidhu Moosewala murder: With the court granting a remand, the Punjab Police now have to produce Lawrence Bishnoi before a Mansa court within 24 hours.
New Delhi: After days of fighting it out in the court, the Punjab Police was on Tuesday finally allowed to arrest jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in connection with the Sidhu Moosewala murder case. The court also allowed the police Bishnoi’s transit remand to Punjab after the police said he is the main accused in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case.
With the court granting a remand, the Punjab Police now have to produce Lawrence Bishnoi before a Mansa court within 24 hours.
“There will be about 50 police personnel of Punjab Police, two bulletproof vehicles; 12 vehicles will run on the way which will clear the route. All routes will be videographed,” Punjab Advocate General Anmol Rattan Sidhu told the duty magistrate at Patiala House Court.
Lawrence Bishnoi’s lawyer Vishal Chopra had opposed the Punjab Police application for custody and had said there is apprehension he may be “eliminated” if transit remand is granted to Punjab Police. The Punjab Police had filed two applications before the court — one to arrest Lawrence Bishnoi and the other for a transit remand to take the jailed gangster to Punjab. The court first allowed the Punjab Police to arrest Lawrence Bishnoi and then in the evening, allowed the transit remand.
Chopra had also suggested a virtual interrogation of Lawrence Bishnoi. “We are just opposing his physical transit remand to Punjab Police. They can arrest him in the case, if needed, but in Delhi only,” the lawyer said.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Police on Tuesday said it has arrested two alleged members of the gang run by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar for their alleged role in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case.
A day after the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab withdrew security covers of 424 VIPs, popular Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Mansa district.
