Activist-politician Prashant Kishor has levelled serious accusations against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, claiming that Kumar has “touched the feet” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure his position in power. Kishor made these remarks on Friday during a public meeting in Bhagalpur, as a part of his ongoing ‘Jan Suraaj’ campaign.
Addressing the crowd, Prashant Kishor responded to queries about his criticism of Kumar, despite having worked with him in the past.
“People ask me why I am now criticising Nitish Kumar, having worked with him in the past. He was a different man back then. His conscience had not been put up for sale,” Kishor asserted.
Prashant Kishor, who managed Kumar’s election campaign for the JD(U) in 2015 and formally joined the party two years later, expressed his disappointment with the current political dynamics.
Prashant Kishor alleged that Nitish Kumar compromised the dignity of Bihar by bowing to PM Modi at an NDA meeting in Delhi last week. “The leader of a state is the pride of its people. But Nitish Kumar brought shame to Bihar when he touched the feet of PM Modi,” he claimed.
Highlighting the political landscape, Kishor noted that the JD(U) had won 12 seats in the Lok Sabha polls, making it the second-largest ally of the BJP, after the TDP, in a scenario where the BJP had failed to secure a majority on its own.
Prashant Kishor further accused Kumar of failing to leverage his political position to benefit Bihar, suggesting that his actions were motivated by a desire to maintain power with BJP support beyond the 2025 assembly polls.
“There is so much talk about Nitish Kumar playing a key role in PM Modi’s return to power. But how is the Bihar CM leveraging his position? He is not using his clout to ensure benefits for the state. He is touching feet to ensure that he remains in power, with BJP support, even after 2025 assembly polls,” Kishor argued.
Prashant Kishor first gained prominence in 2014 for orchestrating the highly successful Lok Sabha campaign for PM Modi. By the time he exited political consultancy in 2021, he had worked with several high-profile politicians, including Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, and Jagan Mohan Reddy.
