Bangladeshi actress Nusraat Faria, best known for her portrayal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the biopic Mujib: The Making of a Nation, was arrested at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday. She was reportedly enroute to Thailand when she was detained at the immigration checkpoint in connection with an attempted murder case.
Faria, 31, was among 17 actors named in a case linked to the July 2024 student protests that swept Bangladesh and contributed to the fall of the Hasina-led government. The case pertains to an alleged attempt to murder a student in the Vatara area of the capital during the peak of the anti-government demonstrations.”Our team went to the airport to get her based on information from the Immigration Police. According to reports, Faria was taken to Vatara police station following her arrest. However, she was later transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for further questioning, Prothom Alo reported.
The arrest followed a court’s approval of the case a few days earlier. Bangladeshi authorities have not yet released details of her alleged role in the incident.

Nusraat Faria began her film career in 2015 with the romantic drama Aashiqui, starring opposite Ankush Hazra. The film marked her debut in the Dhallywood film industry and was a commercial success. She followed up with notable roles in films like Hero 420 (2016), Badsha – The Don (2016), Premi O Premi (2017), and Boss 2: Back to Rule (2017).
In 2023, Faria gained international recognition for her portrayal of Sheikh Hasina in Mujib: The Making of a Nation, a biographical film directed by veteran Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal. The film was a joint production between Bangladesh and India and starred Arifin Shuvoo in the role of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh’s founding father and first president.
Faria’s arrest has sparked shock in the entertainment industry, given her high-profile career and past association with political figures on screen. As the investigation unfolds, more details about her alleged involvement in the protests and subsequent violence are expected to surface.
