President Droupadi Murmu has officially invited senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi to form the Union government for a third consecutive term. This invitation follows a BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting where leaders proposed Modi’s name as the leader of its Parliamentary Party and Leader of the Lok Sabha, confirming him as the Prime Minister-elect.
Earlier in the day, Modi paid visits to party veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi at their residences.

Addressing the NDA’s parliamentary meeting this morning, Modi dismissed the Opposition’s efforts to undermine the alliance’s Lok Sabha election victory.
“There were efforts to not acknowledge this very victory, to cast a shadow of defeat. But all such efforts remained fruitless,” he declared.

The NDA currently holds 293 seats following Tuesday’s results, while the Opposition’s INDIA bloc has 234 seats. The BJP alone secured 240 seats, and the Congress saw its tally rise to 100 on Thursday night.
Congress Sees Positive Developments
In recent developments, the Congress celebrated an increase in its Lok Sabha tally to 100 late on Thursday after Vishal Patil, the rebel candidate who won from the Sangli Lok Sabha seat, extended support to the Grand Old Party, the INDIA bloc, and the Maha Vikas Aghadi.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, addressing a press conference, has called for a probe into the significant fluctuations in share prices post-exit polls and on election results day, labeling it the “biggest scam” in the history of Indian stock markets.
