Ink, Saffron and Freedom: A Journey Through India’s Soul, a powerful narrative tracing India’s cultural, political, and journalistic evolution, was officially launched at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi on Thursday. The event saw the presence of top intellectual and ideological voices, including Dr. Krishna Gopal, Sah-Sarkaryavah of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and Prem Prakash, Chairman of Asian News International (ANI).
Penned by veteran journalist Shri Kedar Nath Gupta, with contributions from author and media personality Mrs. Manoranjana Sinh, the book offers a deeply personal and ideological account of India’s post-independence journey — capturing the essence of a nation constantly at the crossroads of tradition and modernity.
A Cultural and Political Chronicle of Independent India Published by Prabhat Prakashan, the book weaves spiritual reflection with political insight. It revisits landmark moments in India’s history, from the Partition-era violence to the rise of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and casts a critical eye on the challenges faced by Indian journalism in recent decades.
Kedar Nath Gupta, who has lived through India’s most turbulent political chapters, describes the book as a “reflection of a journalist’s life woven into the fabric of a nation rediscovering its soul.” His personal accounts from prison and pressrooms lend authenticity to a narrative that is both intimate and nationalistic.
Highlights from book launch anniversary
Dr. Krishna Gopal lauded the work as a timely contribution to India’s intellectual heritage, emphasizing the Hindu way of life as a globally relevant model rooted in tolerance and cultural resilience. He noted that the book serves as a “guidepost in reclaiming India’s civilizational identity.”
Prem Prakash underscored the book’s unique dual narrative — part memoir, part national chronicle — that captures the political pulse of Delhi as well as the broader evolution of Indian democracy. “Gupta has documented India with grit and grace, often under duress,” he remarked, recalling the journalist’s incarceration during politically charged times.
Support from Global Voices and Rich Turnout at the Event
Gupta also extended thanks to international figures Erik Solheim and Aiden White, who supported the publication and global outreach of the book. The event drew a cross-section of politicians, scholars, literature enthusiasts, and media veterans, offering a platform for nuanced dialogue on India’s cultural resurgence.
According to Manoranjana Sinh, the book is not just a tribute to history but a call for introspection. “In a time when narratives are being reshaped, Ink, Saffron and Freedom invites readers to question, reflect, and reaffirm India’s civilizational truths,” she said.
