BJP Member of Parliament and actress Kangana Ranaut has reached out to law enforcement for assistance following the emergence of a threatening video targeting her over the release of her upcoming film, *Emergency*. The film, which depicts Ranaut in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has sparked controversy since the release of its trailer on social media.
In the video, a group of six men can be seen sitting in a circle, with two dressed as Nihang Sikhs. One of the men, identified as Vicky Thomas Singh, who is known for his pro-Bhindranwale videos on social media, issued a stark warning. He stated that if the film is released, it will face condemnation from the Sikh community. Singh threatened, “Your movie will be met with chappals.”
Singh further warned that if the film portrays Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in a negative light, it would result in consequences similar to those faced by Indira Gandhi, referencing the assassinations of Gandhi by her bodyguards, Satwant Singh and Beant Singh, in 1984. He added, “We will offer our heads to but those who can offer heads can also chop off them off.”
Ranaut responded to the threats by posting the video on X (formerly Twitter) and tagging the Director General of Police for Maharashtra, as well as the police forces of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, urging them to investigate the matter.
The controversy surrounding the film has been fueled by several organizations, including the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, which has called for a ban on the film. They argue that *Emergency* propagates an “anti-Sikh” narrative and inaccurately represents Sikhs as “separatists.”
