New Delhi: France is known for its cheese and the French are really proud of their dairy history. However, three chefs from the country’s Lyon city took it to a different level and entered the Guinness World Records for most varieties of cheese on a pizza after they used 834 different varieties of cheese!

The attempt at the record was made to firstly promote the large variety of cheese available in France and also to spread the tradition.

Chefs Morgan Niquet, François Robin and Julien Serri set the record on September 25, 2021 at the SIRHA exhibition, according to the website of Guinness World Records. The exhibition was a global meeting place for hotels, restaurants, catering and gastronomy, said the website.

The preparation began at 11.30 am and the chefs began to cut the minimum amount of cheese they could from each variety of cheese. To be counted as a topping, at least two gram cheese is needed. Once all the 834 different types of cheese were accumulated, the chefs placed them on a mould and then on the pizza base. After the first phase of cooking was done, the chefs removed the mould and finished cooking it to get the desired result.

The website added, “Adjudicator Lorenzo Veltri was on hand to confirm the record and present the chefs with their hard-earned certificate. This record smashes the previous one set by fellow Frenchman Benoît Bruel, also in Lyon, France.”

On February 22, 2020, Bruel had made a pizza with 254 different types of cheese.
