In a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, two individuals, including a 17-year-old, lost their lives after being hit by a Toyota Fortuner SUV. The SUV was part of the convoy of Karan Bhushan Singh, the BJP candidate for the Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat and son of six-time MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
The incident has raised significant concern and outrage, especially considering the high-profile nature of the vehicle involved.
The accident occurred when Rehan, a 17-year-old, and his 24-year-old cousin Shahzad, were out on a bike to purchase medicines. According to the FIR filed by Chanda Begum, the mother of Rehan, the speeding SUV hit the bike around 9 am, resulting in the immediate death of both the young men. A 60-year-old woman, Sita Devi, was also injured in the incident and is currently hospitalised.
The SUV is registered to Nandini Nagar Educational Institute, which is managed by the family of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Visuals from the accident site showed the SUV with “police escort” written on its rear windscreen, indicating its use in a VIP convoy.

Following the accident, a large crowd gathered at the scene, and family members of the victims demanded justice. The police have since arrested the driver of the SUV and seized the vehicle. Senior police officer Radheysham Rai stated that the bodies have been sent for autopsy, and an investigation is ongoing.
There is yet no confirmation on whether Karan Bhushan Singh was present in the convoy at the time of the accident. The incident has further complicated the already tense situation surrounding the Singh family, particularly Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was recently charged with sexual harassment allegations that have likely influenced his son’s candidature.
Farman Khan, a relative of the deceased, expressed deep anguish over the incident, recounting how they found the road stained with blood upon arrival at the scene and learned about the deaths at the hospital. He appealed for justice for the victims and their grieving families.
