Independent candidate Vishal Patil, who won the Lok Sabha elections from the Sangli constituency of Maharashtra, extended his support to the Congress on Thursday in the presence of Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
According to sources, two more Independent MPs are likely to join the Congress soon.
Vishal Patil was a member of the Congress before fighting the Lok Sabha elections as an Independent candidate. During the seat sharing discussion between the Maha Vikas Aghadi constituents, Vishal Patil could not ensure a seat for himself.
Vishal Patil, along with his mentor MLA Vishwajeet Kadam, met with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Thursday. Patil delivered his letter of support to Kharge.
“My family has been part of the Congress for generations. My father, grandfather, and brother have all been members of the Congress party,” he stated.

Vishal Patil mentioned the close relationship between his family and the Thackeray family. “Our party leaders made efforts to persuade Uddhav Thackeray to nominate me from Sangli. However, it didn’t work out. Despite this, my family and the Thackeray family share a strong rapport. Now that I’ve been elected, I hope any misunderstandings between us will be resolved,” Patil said.
