In a significant development, former MP Prajwal Revanna’s bail petition has been rejected by a special court for public representatives in Bengaluru. The decision comes amidst serious allegations of rape under Indian Penal Code Section 376, with the special public prosecutor emphasizing the severity of the charges during the hearing on Wednesday.
Prajwal Revanna, 33, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and the nephew of former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, has been embroiled in a series of sex crime allegations.
The Janata Dal Secular (JDS) party has suspended him following the accusations. He is currently in the custody of a special investigation team (SIT) that has been established to investigate his alleged sex crimes.
The controversy began on April 23 when videos surfaced showing Revanna allegedly sexually assaulting multiple women, just days before the polling in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, where he was a candidate.

Following the voting on April 26, Revanna fled to Germany on April 27. Despite an SIT investigation and a Blue Corner notice issued to trace him, Revanna remained elusive. However, after strong appeals and warnings from HD Deve Gowda and HD Kumaraswamy, he returned to India and was arrested on May 31.
In the aftermath of these events, Prajwal Revanna lost the election in Hassan, with the results announced on June 4, showing a defeat by a margin of over 40,000 votes.
Adding to the family’s legal troubles, Prajwal Revanna’s brother, Suraj Revanna, a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, is also in custody facing allegations of sexually assaulting a man.
