Suspended Janata Dal Secular leader and rape-accused MP Prajwal Revanna was arrested early this morning at the Bengaluru airport upon his return from Germany. Prajwal Revanna, taken into custody at Kempegowda Airport at 12:45 am by a three-member team of female police officers, has been remanded to police custody until June 6.
The decision to deploy female officers for Revanna’s arrest was praised by former Bengaluru police chief turned politician K Bhaskar Rao. He remarked, “It’s a positive sign the strong women in Karnataka’s police force will not only deal with the perpetrator but send a strong message to hundreds of women…”
Following his arrest, Prajwal Revanna underwent a routine medical check-up at a city hospital before being presented in court for a remand hearing. The police requested a 14-day custody period, which was contested by Revanna’s lawyers who argued that one day was more than sufficient.
Prajwal Revanna had fled to Germany less than a week after several videos of women being coerced into sex acts surfaced in the media.

He left India using a diplomatic passport, a privilege afforded by his position as a member of the Lok Sabha. Despite the charges against him, Revanna, the outgoing MP from Hassan, remains a strong candidate to retain his seat, bolstered by the support of the JDS’ new ally, the BJP, as the election results are set to be declared on Tuesday.
Earlier, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed the arrest and said, “Prajwal Revanna landed around 12:40 am to 12:50 am from Germany’s Munich, as there was an arrest warrant against him. The SIT accordingly arrested him and took him into custody. They will follow further legal procedures.” Before his arrival, Prajwal Revanna had made a last-minute attempt to avoid arrest by seeking bail from the court. He had also issued a video citing his innocence.
