IPL 2024 Schedule: In a thrilling start to IPL 2024, the Chennai Super Kings, reigning champions, will face off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 22.
The IPL unveiled a tantalizing partial schedule, featuring the first batch of 21 matches spanning from March 22 to April 7. Anticipation mounts as the grand finale is slated for May 26, a mere five days before the commencement of the Men’s T20 World Cup, slated to grace the grounds of the USA and the Caribbean from June 1 onwards.
The latter half of the tournament’s schedule remains in the shadows, awaiting the unveiling of the national election dates by the Election Commission of India, anticipated to fall between April and May.
Among the highlights of the preliminary schedule are four double-headers, with a vibrant opening weekend boasting two back-to-back clashes. On March 23, the Punjab Kings will lock horns with the Delhi Capitals in a daytime showdown, while the Kolkata Knight Riders prepare to battle the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the revered Eden Gardens.

Come March 24, cricket enthusiasts will witness the Rajasthan Royals make their debut against the formidable Lucknow Super Giants. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians will embark on their campaign with an away game against the Gujarat Titans, Pandya’s former squad.
Notably, both the Punjab Kings and the Titans face the grueling challenge of back-to-back encounters, with scarcely a day’s respite. Following their inaugural match on March 23, the Punjab Kings will swiftly journey to Bengaluru to face off against RCB on March 25. Likewise, the Titans, now under the helm of Shubman Gill post-Pandya’s departure, will hastily descend upon Chennai to confront the CSK juggernaut on March 26.
The Delhi Capitals find themselves as the sole franchise deprived of home ground advantage during the March 22 to April 7 period. Instead, their encounters will transpire at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. This arrangement stems from logistical constraints, with the Delhi and District Cricket Association citing a tight schedule due to hosting 11 Women’s Premier League matches, including the final, until March 17.
During this 17-day stretch, the Capitals, Titans, and RCB are slated for five matches each, whereas the KKR will partake in three encounters. Meanwhile, the remaining franchises are penciled in for four games each.
The Punjab Kings will unveil a new home venue in Mullanpur on the outskirts of Chandigarh, deviating from their traditional home in Mohali.
The tournament opener promises a momentous occasion as MS Dhoni, cricket’s revered captain, makes his eagerly awaited comeback. Dhoni, the epitome of leadership, is set to grace Chennai in early March to commence training with his beloved CSK. His return to the field marks a triumphant resurgence following knee surgery post last season’s rain-marred final triumph over the Titans in Ahmedabad.
Adding to the spectacle, Hardik Pandya will don the captain’s armband for the Mumbai Indians, charting a fresh course following his illustrious stint with the Titans, where he led them to championship glory in their inaugural season. Moreover, fans eagerly anticipate the return of Rishabh Pant to competitive cricket after a hiatus induced by a serious car accident in December 2022.
With 74 riveting encounters, including four gripping playoff matches, IPL 2024 promises to captivate audiences worldwide with its adrenaline-pumping action and unrivaled drama.
