The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable, identified as Kulwinder Kaur, has been arrested and suspended for allegedly slapping newly-elected Mandi MP and actor Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport. The incident, which reportedly occurred due to Ranaut’s past comments on farmers’ protests, has sparked significant controversy.
Sources revealed that the altercation took place on Thursday as Kangana Ranaut was preparing to board a flight to Delhi. The incident was reportedly triggered by an old statement made by Kangana Ranaut during the 2020 farmers’ protests, where she suggested that elderly women at protest sites were being paid Rs 100 to participate.
This comment had garnered widespread backlash at the time and was subsequently deleted by the actor.
Kulwinder Kaur, who claimed her mother was among the protesters, confronted Kangana Ranaut at the airport. “She gave a statement that farmers are sitting there for Rs 100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave this statement,” Kaur said, referring to Ranaut’s controversial remark.
A video recorded by onlookers shows Ranaut being escorted to the security checkpoint where the incident occurred. An argument ensues, and although the video does not capture the alleged slap, Kangana Ranaut is seen being escorted away.
Following the incident, Kangana Ranaut took to social media platform X to share her account of what happened.

“The incident happened at the security check-in. The woman guard waited for me to cross. She then came and hit me… started throwing expletives. I asked her why she hit me. She said, ‘I support farmers’. I am safe… but my concern is terrorism is rising in Punjab. How do we handle that?” she said in her video message.
This is not the first time Ranaut’s comments on the farmers’ protests have stirred controversy. In February 2021, she faced a backlash after responding to a post by singer Rihanna, who had shared a video of the farmers protesting with the caption, “Why aren’t we talking about this?” Ranaut had labelled the protestors as “terrorists” in her response, a post she later deleted.
The farmers’ protests of 2020/21, which opposed three farm laws passed by the Centre, made headlines both in India and internationally. Throughout the agitation, Ranaut made several social media posts criticizing the protests and questioning their legitimacy.
During her election campaign, Ranaut’s convoy was blocked by protesters in Chandigarh, reflecting the ongoing tensions surrounding her comments on the farmers’ movement.
