On Sunday, the West Bengal Police recovered parts of human bones near a canal in the South 24 Parganas district during a search operation linked to the murder of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar.
Officials believe the bones, found in the Kashipur Police Station area, are the skeletal remains of the murdered MP and have been sent for forensic analysis for identification.
The breakthrough in the case came after the arrest and extradition of Mohammad Siyam Hussain, a key suspect, from Nepal. Hussain’s arrest led the state CID to the gruesome discovery. A butcher involved in the case allegedly skinned the MP’s body, chopped it into pieces, and mixed them with turmeric before dispersing the parts at various locations.
Earlier, CID officials had recovered around 3.5 kg of flesh from a septic tank of an apartment in New Town, on the outskirts of Kolkata, where Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar was last seen on May 12.

The MP’s daughter is expected to arrive in Kolkata next week for a DNA test to confirm the identity of the recovered bones and flesh.
An initial investigation revealed that Akhtaruzzaman, a US citizen and a close friend of the MP from Sheikh Hasina’s party, allegedly paid around Rs 5 crore to plan and execute the murder. According to police, the Awami League leader was strangled and his body was dismembered.
The police launched a frantic search for MP Anar after Gopal Biswas, a resident of Baranagar in north Kolkata and an acquaintance of the politician, filed a missing person’s report on May 18, six days after Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim arrived in Kolkata. The MP had been staying at the complainant’s home upon his arrival in India.
This horrific case continues to unfold as investigators piece together the evidence and await forensic confirmation of the remains.
