New Delhi: The Euro Weekly News reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin has survived as assassination attempt. The article added that the news was released on the General GVR Telegram channel on Wednesday.

However, it is unclear when the attempt was made. This comes amid rumours revolving around Putin’s health and the possible threat to life have been flooding social media platforms, more so after Russia and Ukraine engaged in a battle. Back in 2017, Putin had disclosed that he has survived at least five assassination attempts.

In the Telegram channel it was reported that the left front wheel of Putin’s limousine was hit by a loud bang when the car was quickly driven to safety amid smoke coming out of it. The report added that Vladimir Putin was unharmed but several arrests were made in connection with the incident.

Some media outlets claimed that Putin was heading back to his official residence in a decoy motorcade amid heightened security concerns when the incident took place.

The update posted on the Telegram channel read, “On the way to the residence, a few kilometres away, the first escort car was blocked by an ambulance, the second escort car drove around without stopping (due to the) sudden obstacle, and during the detour of the obstacle.”

Notably, a group of politicians from St Petersburg had appealed to State Duma to charge Putin with state treason and strip him of power, citing a series of reasons, including Russia’s military losses in Ukraine and the damage to its economy in light of the Western sanctions.

A local deputy said 65 municipal representatives from St Petersburg, Moscow and several other regions had signed a petition on Monday calling for Putin’s resignation.
