New Delhi: The first Test match of India vs Sri Lanka, slated to be held in Mohali on March 4, is likely to become a memorable one for both Virat Kohli and his fans. The former India captain will play his 100th Test match and enter the elite group of only the 12th Indian to play 100 Test matches.

The match may get more special if Kohli manages to hit 38 runs to touch the 8,000-run-mark in the longest format of the game. And to make things more special, the Punjab Cricket Association has allowed to open its gates for audience but has capped the capacity at 50%. Earlier, it was decided not to allow any spectator although Covid-19 cases are waning in the state.

A BCCI official was quoted by a leading newspaper of India as saying, “Keeping in mind all Covid-19 protocols, the PCA has got the ndian cricket board’s (BCCI) nod to allow spectators at 50% capacity for the first Test.”

If the former Indian skipper manages to hit 38 runs in the first innings, he will become the fifth fastest from India to do so after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virendra Sehwag and Sunil Gavaskar. With Kohli staging a poor performance in Test cricket for a long time now, almost since 2019 when he last scored his century against Bangladesh in 2019, in this match, the ace batsman will look to score as much as possible. The break he took from the final T20 against West Indies is likely to send a fresh Virat to the pitch.
