Udaipur: In a shocking incident, a man, a tailor by profession, who had put up a status in support of expelled BJP leader Nupur Sharma, was beheaded by two assailants in Udaipur’s Maldas on Tuesday. The beheading took place near the Udaipur bus stand and the incident was recorded by the assailants.

The police have managed to arrest the duo — Gaus Mohammed & Riyaz — both residents of Surajpole in Udaipur. Meanwhile, a team of the National Investigation Agency has been rushed to Udaipur to investigate the matter.

The man, Kanhaiyalal Teli, had put up a WhatsApp status in Sharma’s support. Nupur Sharma had allegedly used derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad which led to widespread protests across the country.

Meanwhile, the Udaipur murder has led to a law and order problem, forcing the police force to press 600 personnel and sever internet connections in the city. The two accused, who are yet to be arrested, also released another video where they claimed responsibility of the heinous crime and threatened to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, “I condemn the heinous murder of youth in Udaipur. Strict action will be taken against all the criminals involved in this incident and the police will go to the bottom of the crime. I appeal to all parties to maintain peace. Strictest punishment will be given to every person involved in such a heinous crime.”

He added, “I appeal to everyone not to try to spoil the atmosphere by sharing the video of this incident. By sharing the video, the criminal’s purpose of spreading hatred in the society will be successful.”

It is important to note that social media platforms are abuzz with the video shot by the perpetrators during the attack and also the one that they shot later while claiming responsibility of the attack.

Speaking to the media at the Jodhpur airport, Gehlot said, “It is a sad and shameful incident. There is a tensed atmosphere in the nation today. Why doesn’t the Prime Minister and Amit Shah address the nation? The PM should address the public and say that such violence won’t be tolerated and appeal for peace.”
