Tejashwi meets Sonia in Delhi; leaders divided over number of ministerial berths: Sources

Tejashwi said, “Nitish Kumar ji took a timely decision and his move to walk out of the NDA is a slap on the face of the BJP.”

New Delhi: Buoyed by the return to power in Bihar and on his first visit to Delhi after the change of guard in his home state, Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Friday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and leaders of the Left parties. Later on, he said Bihar has shown the direction to the country by pushing BJP out of power.

Although Tejashwi met Sonia and exchanged pleasantries, sources in Congress said the parties are divided over the number of ministerial berths each party gets in Bihar. While the RJD leader is willing to spare two berths, the Congress is harping on at least four berths.

After the meetings, Tejashwi said all the party leaders he met congratulated the RJD for backing Nitish Kumar after he ended ties with the BJP. He said, “Nitish Kumar ji took a timely decision and his move to walk out of the NDA is a slap on the face of the BJP.”

He added, “In the Bihar Assembly, all political parties, barring the BJP, all of us have come together. The same will now be seen in the country. People are fed up with price rise, unemployment, social and communal tension…those who want to rule the country by pitting Hindus and Muslims against each other…where our Constitution and democracy are in danger…where attempts were made to destroy bhaichara…our Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb…Bihar has once again…shown a new direction to the country.”

He also slammed the BJP for destabilising elected governments. “What happened in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh…Jharkhand we have seen all that drama…Our Constitutional institutions are being destroyed one by one, be it ED, CBI or Income Tax. They have become worse than a police station. And who are they trying to scare? We, the people of Bihar, are not the ones who will be scared,” he said.
