Smriti Irani, J Scindia get additional portfolios after resignation of 2 ministers

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi resigned from the post of Union Cabinet Minister of Minority Affairs on Wednesday. RCP Singh, another minister from Janata Dal (U) quota submitted his resignation from his post.

New Delhi: Hours after resignation ofMukhtar Abbas Naqvi and RCP Singh from Narendra Modi cabinet, Smriti Irani and Jyotiraditya Scindia to took additional charge. Irani, who has been holding portfolio of Women and Child Development Minister, was given additional charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

Smriti Irani, in a tweet, said, “Hearty thanks to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for handing over the additional charge of Ministry of Minority Affairs in the Government of India. I will continue to fulfill the given responsibility with full devotion and resolve to serve the country through the welfare of minority sections.”

Jyotiraditya Scindia, who has been holding charge of Civil Aviation Minister, was given charge of the Ministry of Steel. Scindia, in a tweet, said, “Hearty thanks to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for handing over the additional charge of Ministry of Minority Affairs in the Government of India.I will continue to fulfill the given responsibility with full devotion and resolve to serve the country through the welfare of minority sections.”

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi resigned from the post of Union Cabinet Minister of Minority Affairs on Wednesday. His Rajya Sabha term comes to an end on Thursday.

Earlier, the ruling BJP had decided not to re-nominate him as a candidate in the polls to the Upper House of Parliament. However, speculations are also rife that Naqvi may be proposed as the next vice-president of India, polls for which are slated to be held on August 6.

The speculations were sparked off after Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Naqvi in the Union Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.

RCP Singh, another minister from Janata Dal (U) quota submitted his resignation from his post.
