Slain photojournalist Danish Siddiqui’s family to move court against Taliban

This killing constitutes not only a murder, but a crime against humanity and a war crime, said Danish’s family.

New Delhi: The parents of Indian photojouralist Danish Siddiqui will move the International Criminal Court against the Taliban tomorrow over Siddique’s death in Afghanistan last year. He was killed while covering a clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban fighters in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar city last July.

Family of 38-year-old Danish Siddiqui, an Indian potographer who was killed in Kandhar province in Afghanistan, has decided to take Taliban to take court over his killing. As per the report the family will move the International Criminal Court against the Taliban on Tuesday as he was killed while covering a clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban fighters in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar city last July.

On Tuesday, 22nd March, 2022, Danish Siddiqui’s parents, Akhtar Siddiqui and Shahida Akhtar will initiate legal action to investigate his killing and bring those responsible, including high level commanders and leaders of the Taliban, to justice,” said a statement issued by the family.

“These acts and this killing constitutes not only a murder but a crime against humanity and a war crime. This was not an isolated incident. The Taliban’s military code of conduct, published as the Layha, has a policy of attacking civilians, including journalists. ,” it further said. The statement, however, has not revealed what kind of legal action would be sought.
