Sidhu Moose Wala murder: First arrest made from Uttarakhand, cops get 5-day remand

Sources said the arrested was identified as Manpreet Singh and he was arrested from Uttarakhand. Singh was produced before a court in Mansa on Tuesday and sent to five days’ police remand.

New Delhi: Hours after he was cremated, the Punjab Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested one of the culprits behind the murder of singer-politician Sidhu Moose Wala.

Sources said the arrested was identified as Manpreet Singh and he was arrested from Uttarakhand. Singh was produced before a court in Mansa on Tuesday and sent to five days’ police remand.

The arrest comes on a day The Delhi Police took jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in its custody in connection with an Arms Act case and a day after the Special Cell of the Delhi Police interrogated Bishnoi inside the Tihar Jail over the murder of singer-politician Sidhu Moose Wala.

Bishnoi was earlier lodged in a Rajasthan jail and was recently shifted to Delhi in connection with an MCOCA case. Police sources said once in Delhi, he allegedly contacted his associates and tasked Shahrukh to kill Moose Wala. However, the plan failed and later Shahrukh was arrested by a team of Delhi Police’s Special Cell.

Meanwhile, a sea of people gathered at the last rites of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala at his village on Tuesday. As per reports, people from across the state turned up to participate in last journey of the 28-year-old singer who was shot dead by assailants on Sunday. State authorities, after going through the formalities, had handed over Moose Wala’s body to his family.

Meanwhile, criticism relating of downsizing the security cover of the singer does not seem to be dying down anytime soon as the Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the state government, seeking to know the basis on which it decided to withdraw or trim the security cover of over 400 people, including Moose Wala’s, who was killed a day later.

A day after the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government withdrew security covers of 424 VIPs, popular Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Mansa district on Sunday.
