New Delhi: A spokesperson of the Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal’s Kathmandu said the rescue operation to look for the missing persons onboard the Tara Air plane is being officially called off as all the bodies have been recovered.

A Nepalese plane carrying 22 passengers, including four Indian nationals, had lost contact with the ground control, authorities had said. The aircraft, a Tara Air’s 9 NAET twin-engine plane, was flying from Pokhra to Jomsom and lost contact around 9:50 am on Sunday.

The operation ended on a day when the rescue officers said all 22 bodies were recovered from the crash site and the black box of the aircraft has also been retrieved and being brought to the base station.

A Nepal Army spokesperson had said, “Depending on the weather condition, the bodies will be flown in to Kathmandu via Pokhara. Possibly, the search and rescue operation will come to an end if the weather permits.”

A day after the aircraft had gone missing, the authorities had suspected that all the passengers on board have died. Monday morning, a Nepal Army spokesperson in a series of tweets had said, “Search and rescue troops have physically located the plane crash site. Details will be followed. Lt Mangal Shrestha, police inspector and a Guide have already reached the site. Other rescue team members from different agencies are trying to reach the sites using small HCs. Every possible means to reach the site is being considered. Further detail information of rescue efforts can be obtained from Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) at Kathmandu Airport. Contact number- 01-4113000.”
