New Delhi: Delhi Congress on Tuesday said that the Centre’s decision to merge all the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs) when the elections are on the doorstep was a scripted move by the BJP and the AAP, as they both feared defeat if the elections were held as scheduled. The party said that both these parties had destroyed the city with their constant battles, and did not fulfill any of their promises in the last 15 years and seven years, respectively.

Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar said that what the MCDs required was not merger but funds, as Delhi was ruined with neither the Narendra Modi government, nor the Arvind kejriwal overnment allotting funds to the MCDs for proper governance. He said that if the merger of the MCDs could improve things, then the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) should also be merged with the Corporations for better governance of Delhi.

Delhi Congress president said that the Congress government in Delhi trifurcated the erstwhile MCD to implement development works evenly in every part of Delhi, under the Bhagirdari scheme, by involving Residents’ Welfare Associations and Civic Society in the decision-making process.

He said that the 15-year rule of the BJP in the MCDs became notorious for corruption, which stalled development works, and even payment of salaries to its employees, though BJP  had boasted that it would seek help from the Narendra Modi government to tide over the fund crunch after the Arvind Kejriwal Government refused to release funds due to the MCDs.
