Injured Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of Asia Cup 2022; Axar Patel named as replacement

According to the report, Jadeja has sustained a right knee injury hence cannot play the remaining matches of the tournament.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will not play remaining matches in Asia Cup 2022

New Delhi: In blow for Team India, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of Asia Cup after report of injury. According to the report, Jadeja has sustained a right knee injury hence cannot play the remaining matches. Team India has named Axar Patel as his replacement for the rest of the tournament. Patel, who had performed well during the West Indies series, was named as standby player of the Indian squad earlier and now he will be joining the Indian team very soon.

Ravindra Jadeja, an all-round cricketer, had performed well against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022. In the opening match against India’s arch rival, Jadeja had scored 35 runs which paved the way for victory for team India. His partnership with Hardik Panday turned the match towards the Indian side as both the players faced Pakistani bowlers beautifully. With their partnership, India smashed Pakistan by five wickets.

A statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said, “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Axar Patel as the replacement for Ravindra Jadeja in the ongoing Asia Cup. Ravindra Jadeja has sustained a right knee injury and is ruled out of the tournament. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. His replacement, Axar Patel was earlier named as one of the standbys in the squad and will join the team in Dubai soon.”

Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan,” the statement further read.
