German wildlife park renames ‘Putin’ the boar in solidarity with Ukraine

German wildlife park gives boar named after ‘Putin’ new name

New Delhi: Showing solidarity with Ukraine against ongoing attack by Russian forces, Germany’s Mehlmeisel wildlife park has renamed a wild boar ‘Putin’ as ‘Eberhofer’.

According to the reports, the park operator said that name of wild boar has been changed so that “the park is no longer violated by the name Putin”. The operator further said that they do not want Ukrainian visitors bothered by the name ‘Putin’. Many of Ukrainians have been given free admission at Mehlmeisel, a German place where the wildlife park is located.

It was reported that the park operators organised a ceremony to rename the boar where a cake with the name ‘Eberhofer’ written on it was presented to the boars. The video of which is viral on internet as supporters of Ukrain from across the world has shared it on various social media platforms.

Commenting over the development, a Twitter user wrote, “This is perfect on so many levels. Having worked in zoological p.r., this is one of the best moves possible. From tyrant to favorite book character xo #Eberhofer”. Although the act of renaming is purely symbolic, many netizens seemed to agree with the wild park’s decision.
