Famous ghazal singer Bhupinder Singh passes away

His wife Mitali Singh, who is also a famous singer, said that Bhupinder Singh was admitted at hospital after urine infection and was diagnosed Coronavirus there.

Mumbai: Famous ghazal singer Bhupinder Singh died on Monday after suspecting cancer disease. The 82-year-old singer who had sung songs like ‘Dil Dhoondhta Hai’, Do Diwane Shahar Me’ and ‘Naam Gum Jayega, had Covid related complications also and was admitted at a private hospital in Mumbai for treatment.

His wife Mitali Singh, who is also a famous singer, said that Bhupinder Singh was admitted at hospital after urine infection and was diagnosed Coronavirus there.  

His wife said that he was admitted to the hospital 10 days back. Initially he had urine infection and he also tested Covid positive there. He breathed last around 7:45 pm due to suspected colon cancer and had COVID-19. The singer is survived by his wife and a son. His wife in an Indian-Bangladeshi.

Bollywood producer Naved Jafri, in a tweet, said, “Deepest condolences to the family of Bhupender Singh sahab. May the almighty give them strength and patience to bear this irreplaceable loss.”

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav also paid tribute to the veteran singer. Yadav tweeted, “Anguished over the passing away of legendary singer Bhupinder Singh. His voice mesmerised us for years and his legacy will live on forever through his immortal music. Prayers for his family and loved ones.”

Singh, throughout his career, had worked with famous musicians and singers like Mohammed Rafi, RD Burman, Madan Mohan, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Gulzar and Bappi Lahiri. He started his journey from All India Radio in the national Capital. Later he went to Mumbai after being noticed by music composer Madan Mohan. Singh, whom was born in Amritsar, also played guitar on many popular tracks.
