As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections conclude, exit polls have been announced by various channels. These polls, conducted over six weeks, represent the second longest general election period since 1951-52.
A significant win for the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has been forecasted by five different exit polls. Republic Bharat-P Marq predicts 359 seats for the NDA, India News-D-Dynamics estimates 371, Republic Bharat-Matrize ranges between 353 and 368, TV 5 Telugu forecasts 359, and Jan Ki Baat predicts a sweeping 362 to 392 seats.
The exit polls suggest NDA dominance particularly in Karnataka and Maharashtra, alongside a substantial defeat for the Left-led alliance in Kerala.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 73, and his party, the BJP, are widely expected to secure a third consecutive term. The Congress, struggling with electoral defeats and numerous defections, is part of the opposition bloc INDIA, which is challenging the BJP.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured 303 seats, with the NDA’s total reaching 352. The Congress won 52 seats, while the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) accumulated 91.
This year, the BJP aims for 370 seats and, with the support of its allies, hopes to surpass the 400-seat mark. The Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament, comprises 543 seats, with the majority threshold set at 272.
The official election results will be announced on Tuesday.
