New Delhi: The officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) know that they cannot scare a Congress leader, said Rahul Gandhi in an interaction with Congress party workers at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi on Wednesday. His comment came a day after the Enforcement Directorate interrogated him for the fifth day for almost 12 hours in the National Herald case.

Rahul Gandhi also thanked the Congress party workers who protested against the ED questioning of their leader and said they are not alone and that they are fighting for democracy together with the Congress party.

“ED and such agencies don’t affect me, even the officers who interrogated me understood that a leader of the Congress party can’t be suppressed,” Rahul told a gathering.

He added, “When the ED officers were interrogating me for such long hours, I barely moved from the chair I used to sit on. The officers one day asked me how come you are not moving? I thought of telling them the truth but then I told them something else. I told them I practice vipassana so I have a habit of sitting for long hours.”

He further said, “But the real reason is Rahul Gandhi was not sitting alone inside that room. He was sitting will all the leaders of Congress, party workers and others. You can take a toll on one person’s energy but not on the crores of people associated with the Congress.”

The ED was questioning Rahul Gandhi on the ownership of Young Indian by the Gandhi family and its shareholding in the Associate Journals Limited (AJL), the company that runs the National Herald newspaper. The central agency has interrogated him for almost 52 hours in the case.
