He also requested AAP leaders to focus on good governance rather than organising press conferences on a daily basis to level false allegations against the civic agencies.

New Delhi: The Standing Committee Chairman of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), Col B K Oberoi, on Tuesday said that the Delhi government had made false allegations against the SDMC that it has been shutting down its schools.

“SDMC had merged its 29 schools of double shifts into morning shifts and then the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had made baseless allegations that the SDMC is shutting its schools as the number of students is reducing in its schools,” he said. He added that now the Delhi government itself is merging its double shift schools into single shifts (morning only).

The Delhi government, in November 2019, had started the process of merging its 92 evening shift schools. In this series, the government, on January 13, 2022, had ordered merging of 13 schools and to run them, into six morning shift schools.

Oberoi said, “The Delhi government is claiming that its schools are being merged to improve the level of education and when SDMC had announced a merger of schools, AAP had tried to tarnish the image by alleging that the civic body is shutting down its schools. AAP leaders had made all attempts to defame the SDMC but now its double face has been exposed.”

He also requested AAP leaders to focus on good governance rather than organising press conferences on a daily basis to level false allegations against the civic agencies. “Instead of all these, the government should release the outstanding dues of the MCDs,” Oberoi said.

He further said that the Delhi High Court, in its order in 2011, had emphasised to run morning shift schools observing that evening shift schools are not convenient for students. Performance of students of morning shift schools are comparatively better than that of students of evening shifts, hence, the SDMC had taken a decision to merge them.
