New Delhi: Amid reports of the serious water crisis in Delhi, a delegation of Delhi BJP leaders on Sunday met the Haryana Chief Minister M L Khattar and urged him to release a little more quantity of water due to prevailing hot weather conditions with unbearable scorching heat in Delhi. Khattar reportedly assured them of full cooperation.

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said he urged the Haryana CM on behalf of Delhiites to provide some more water so that they can go about their lives normally. The leaders reminded Khattar whenever the capital city has faced acute water crisis, the Haryana government has always released considerable quantity of water to Delhi on humanitarian grounds. However, the memorandum said in view of the extreme hot condition at present in Delhi, Haryana would do well to release a little more quantity of water so that people get much wanted respite.

Gupta later told media persons Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has done nothing on ground level about this problem. Earlier, his ill-conceived policies led to ruining of the Delhi jal board and now if 30 per cent of water going waste due to leakages could have been saved Delhi would not have to ask other states for water. He said the quantum of water being given by Haryana is sufficient as per the pact.

He said whenever Kejriwal faces a crisis situation he puts the blame on central government, state government or the corporation. The fact is he is himself responsible for this current water situation. Since he is left with no option, he started blaming Haryana, he said adding earlier when Punjab did not have his party’s government, he would blame both Pun jab and Haryana for both Yamuna pollution and water crisis but now is only blaming Haryana as Punjab has now become faultless after his AAP formed government there.

He said Delhiites know well that whenever Delhi has faced acute water crisis, Haryana has always stood by them.  Haryana gave 84000 MGD water in 2015 for Haiderpur and Bawana water treatment plant; in 2016 it was 88000 MGD while in 2017 the quantity went up to 88500 MGD.  Similarly in 2018, it was 88000 MGD and next year it was 89500 MGD.  Similarly, in 2020, the quantity of water released was raised to 92000 MGD and same was 92500 MGD in 2021. He expressed his gratitude to Khattar for the same.
