Centre misusing central agencies against those speaking truth: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata: Moments after Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut for questioning in a money laundering case, West Bengal Chief Minister MAmata Banerjee hits back at Centre. Banerjee alleged that the central agencies are being misused against those speaking truth.

She said that the common people have been suffering severely in BJP’s regime and the reason lots of people have moved to other countries. “BJP is using central agencies like CBI, ED against people speaking truth. BJP is doing whatever it wanted to do,” Banerjee said.

She said, “Today senior Shiv Sena leader have been summoned by the ED. Is this the way to run a democracy?” 

Sanjay Raut was on Monday summoned by summoned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning tomorrow in a case related to money laundering. The probe agency has asked Raut to appear in connection with the R 1,034-crore Patra Chawl land scam case. The ED, earlier in April, has also attached his properties.

Responding to the ED’s charges, Raut tweeted, “I just came to know that the ED has summoned me. Good ! There are big political developments in Maharashtra. We, Balasaheb’s Shivsainiks are fighting a big battle. This is a conspiracy to stop me. Even if you behead me, I won’t take the Guwahati route.”

Rout is among the leaders of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) who has been trying to save Uddhav Thackeray government. Raut, however, have given controversial statements which have been criticised widely. Even his veiled warning to rebel Shiv Sena MLAs that their souls are dead and only bodies will return to Mumbai was discussed during Supreme Court’s Monday hearing.

“The 40 rebel MLAs who are there are not alive. Only their bodies will come back here, their souls will be dead. When they step out of Guwahati, they won’t be alive at heart. They know what can happen in the fire that has been lit now. The soulless bodies will come from Assam and will be sent directly to the [Maharashtra] Assembly for postmortem,”Raut had said.
