Bureaucrats should only say ‘yes sir’ to whatever ministers say: Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi: While speaking at an event of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in Nagpur, Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said bureaucrats should only say “yes sir” and implement whatever a minister says. He added, the government works according to the ministers and not the bureaucrats.

Gadkari said, “I always tell officers (bureaucrats), that the government will not work according to what you say and you only have to say ‘Yes Sir’. You have to implement whatever we (ministers) are saying. The government will work according to us (ministers).”

Gadkari also quoted Mahatma Gandhi and said that no law should come in the way of the welfare of the poor. “If such a law has to be broken even 10 times, we should not hesitate, this is what Mahatma Gandhi said,” Gadkari said.

Gadkari also recalled how he dealt with a problem when in 1995 Manohar Joshi headed the Maharashtra government and said that the bureaucrats will have to say “yes sir” to “whatever the ministers are saying” and implement them.
