‘Arrest Tajinder Bagga and produce him before us’: Mohali court tells cops

Tajinder’s arrest on Friday had come after the leader failed to appear for the interrogation despite Punjab Police sending him notice five times. Later, a drama ensued between the police forces of Punjab, Delhi and Haryana.

New Delhi: A day after heightened drama involving the police forces of three states — Punjab, Delhi and Haryana — over the arrest of BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, a Mohali court issued an arrest warrant against the saffron party leader and instructed the Punjab Police to arrest him and produce him before the court.

Reacting to the development, his father Preetpal Singh Bagga said, “It has now been proven that they just want to book Tajinder Bagga in some case or the other… Delhi Police is present here in Janakpuri, they will be with us in all legal actions & we will cooperate with them.”

On Friday, after arresting junior Bagga, when Punjab Police were enroute to Mohali, they were stopped by the Haryana Police after the Delhi Police registered a case of kidnapping against Punjab Police based on a complaint from senior Bagga. He was later brought back to Delhi and a battery of BJP leaders beelined to his home since Friday night.

Preetpal Singh Bagga had alleged that while arresting Tajinder, the Punjab Police had allegedly punched him on his face. “This morning, 10-15 police personnel came to our home and dragged Tajinder out. When I picked up my mobile phone to record a video of the incident, police took me to another room and punched me in the face.”

Tajinder’s arrest on Friday had come after the leader failed to appear for the interrogation despite Punjab Police sending him notice five times. The Cyber Crime police station in Mohali had reportedly registered an FIR against him and an unknown person for allegedly making provocative statements, “promoting enmity and criminal intimidation”.

Bagga has been critical of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over his remarks on Kashmiri pandits.
