Amid furore over Jahangirpuri demolition drive, Delhi BJP leaders meet Amit Shah

Demolition drive in Jahangirpuri continues for over 90 minutes and the Supreme Court asked the authorities to halt the action. The Apex Court asked to maintain status quo and to hear the matter on Thursday.

New Delhi: Amid controversy over carrying out eviction drive using bulldozers by North Delhi Municipal Corporation in riot-affected Jahangirpuri area, a team of Delhi BJP met on Wednesday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta, leader of opposition in Delhi assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and former MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa were among those who met the home minister at his office at North Block. The delegation of Delhi BJP unit, however, did not share details of meeting with media persons.

It was said that meeting took place in regard of recent incident of communal clashes in Jahangirpuri and eviction drive started by North MCD.      

It may be noted that demolition drive in Jahangirpuri continues for over 90 minutes and the Supreme Court asked the authorities to halt the action. The Apex Court asked to maintain status quo and to hear the matter on Thursday.

The civic body reportedly carried out the drive as they had not received order of the court. The Court directed its Secretary-General to convey the earlier order to stop demolition to the NDMC Mayor and the Delhi Police Commissioner immediately. Later, Mayor of north corporation, Raja Iqbal Singh, said to comply with the court’s order.
