New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday over Khalistanis putting up their flags on the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha and demanded the resignation of the state Chief Minister Jairam Thakur. They (AAP) also said that how can the saffron party protect the sanctity of our country when all its leaders are busy advocating for a ‘vile criminal’.

Addressing the media, the AAP legislator from Kalkaji, Atishi said that the BJP should be ashamed of themselves. Despite them having their government in Himachal Pradesh, how are Khalistani flags hoisted at the Vidhan Sabha? The Vidhan Sabha of every single state in this country is a symbol of India’s sovereignty, and it is appalling that such an incident has occurred at Himachal Pradesh’s legislative assembly.

“If the BJP has failed so spectacularly in ensuring the safety of the Vidhan Sabha of the state where it is in power, how can we expect them to provide security to a common person? The Aam Aadmi Party strongly believes that Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur must tender his resignation at the earliest, or he must be removed from his post of CM by BJP’s central leadership,” she said.

Meanwhile, AAP MP Sanjay Singh stated, “Khalistani flags being hoisted at a highly secure institution like Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha denotes the colossal failure of the BJP Government. Who will protect Himachal Pradesh and the whole country when BJP and its governments are busy protecting a criminal?”

“It is a matter of pain and shame that BJP got the high court opened at midnight to prevent the arrest of a serial offender. What message does the BJP want to send to the country by sending their Goa CM to meet a man accused of inciting riots?” he said.

Himachal Pradesh assembly building in Dharamshala witnessed draping of Khalistan flag over the main gate and graffiti supporting Khalistan movement on the boundary wall on Sunday morning. The local police were informed about the incident following which flags and slogans were fixed on the walls.  The police removed flags from the gate of the state assembly.

The law enforcement agency has suspected involvement of tourists from neighbouring Punjab. “It could be an act of some tourists from Punjab. A case is going to be registered in this connection,” said a senior police official.
