51% UP elected MLAs of have criminal cases, 39% have serious cases: ADR

New Delhi: A whopping 205 or 51 per cent winning candidates out of total 403 MLAs elected for UP Assembly this year have declared criminal cases against themselves, says an analysis of Association of Democratic Research Association (ADR). In 2017, a total of 143 or 36 MLAs had declared criminal cases against themselves.

Report has further said that as many as 158 or 39 per cent winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, crimes against women and related charges. Out of 402 MLAs analysed during Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2017, 107 of 26 per cent MLAs had declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

ADR report says that five winning candidates have declared cases related to murder (Section 302 of IPC) against themselves, 29 winning candidates have declared cases of attempt to murder (Section 307), six winning candidates have declared cases related to crimes against women. Out of six winning candidates one winner candidate has declared cases related to rape. (Section 376).

The report has analysed that 111 or 44 per cent out of 255 winning candidates from BJP, 71 or 64 per cent out of 111 winning candidates from SP, seven or 88 per cent out of 8 winning candidates from RLD, four or 67 per cent out of six winning candidates from Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, four or 67 per cent out of six winning candidates from Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal, three or 25 per cent out of 12 winning candidates from Apna Dal (Soneylal), two or 100 per cent from Jansatta Dal Loktantrik, two or 100 per cent from INC and on or 100 per cent BSP winning candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

ADR report has revealed that out of the 403 winning candidates analysed, 366 are crorepatis. While in 2017, 322 MLAs were crorepatis.   233 from BJP, 100 from SP, nine from Apna Dal (Soneylal), seven from RLD, six from Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, six from Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal, two from Jansatta Dal Loktantrik, two from INC and one BSP winning candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.
