27 died in a building fire incident in Mundka; Many feared trapped

According to the reports, the fire incident took place around 4:45 pm and the people were trapped inside. As the matter was reported, a team of local police reached the spot immediately and tried to rescue people who were inside the premises.

New Delhi: At least 27 people were killed while many feared trapped after a massive fire broke out at an office building in Mundka area on Friday evening. A massive rescue operation was launched by the fire department and police and the rescue operation was underway till the report was filed. Fire department officials, in a statement, said that the fire fighting operation had ended while the rescue operation was going on.

According to the reports, the fire incident took place around 4:45 pm and the people were trapped inside. As the matter was reported, a team of local police reached the spot immediately and tried to rescue people who were inside the premises. Police broke the windows of the building so it could evacuate the victims. Many were immediately rushed to the hospital and a massive rescue operation was launched to search and trace people.

As per the reports, a total of 30 fire brigades were rushed to douse the fire. Ambulances were also rushed there to take victims to the hospital for immediate medical treatment. The building was being used as offices of several companies and the victims are employees working there.

According to the initial information, the fire took place on the first floor of the office building. Those working on the first floor were rescued immediately. Police have detained the owner of the company.

Expressing grief over the death of scores of people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a tragic fire in Delhi. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

The Union Home Minister tweeted, “The incident of fire in Delhi’s Mundka is very sad. I am in constant touch with the concerned officials, the administration is engaged in relief and rescue work. NDRF is also reaching there soon. Our priority is to evacuate people and provide immediate treatment to the injured.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his grief by tweeting, “The fire in Mundaka, Delhi is extremely horrific. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones in this tragedy. Praying for the quick recovery of those who are injured.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also expressed his sadness over the incident. He tweeted, “Shocked and pained to know about this tragic incident. I am constantly in touch with officers. Our brave firemen are trying their best to control the fire and save lives. God bless all.”
