In a controversial move, municipal authorities in Tadepalli, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh demolished the under-construction central office of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) early Saturday morning, claiming it to be illegal. The demolition began around 5.30 am with the use of excavators and bulldozers, carried out by the Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Corporation (MTMC).
The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) had previously issued a notice to the YSRCP regarding the alleged illegal construction. Despite the notice, the YSRCP challenged the CRDA’s action in the High Court on Friday. A party spokesperson stated that the court had ordered a halt to the demolition, and this directive was reportedly communicated to the CRDA Commissioner by the YSRCP’s lawyer.
According to officials from the CRDA and MTMC, the YSRCP office was being constructed on land owned by the irrigation department. Allegations suggest that under the previous YSRCP government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, the land, previously used for a boatyard, was leased for a minimal amount.

Furthermore, the construction allegedly proceeded without obtaining necessary approvals from CRDA and MTMC.
YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy condemned the demolition, accusing the TDP-led government of political vendetta. In a post on ‘X’, he claimed that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu ignored High Court orders and used bulldozers to demolish the YSRCP’s central office, describing the act as dictatorial.
Jagan Mohan Reddy further asserted that Naidu’s actions were a clear indication of how he intends to govern over the next five years. Despite these challenges, Reddy vowed that the YSRCP would not succumb to threats and political vendetta. He pledged to continue fighting for the people and called on democratic forces across the country to condemn Naidu’s actions.
