The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to make a historic comeback in Delhi after a 27-year-long wait, as per the latest Election Commission (EC) trends. With vote counting still underway, the BJP is leading in 47 seats, solidifying its return to power. However, the party’s next big challenge is selecting a Chief Minister to lead the national capital.
BJP Yet to Announce Chief Minister Face
Despite its sweeping victory, the BJP has not yet revealed its Chief Ministerial candidate. The party strategically campaigned under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, without projecting a specific CM face. Arvind Kejriwal, who stepped down as Delhi CM last year, sought to reclaim his position but fell short in the elections.
When questioned about the Chief Ministerial pick, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva remarked that the decision rests with the party’s central leadership.
“Our party workers have worked hard. This victory will be the victory of our top leadership. We have contested the election based on the issues of Delhi – but Arvind Kejriwal tried to deviate from the issues,” Sachdeva stated.
Speculation Over BJP’s CM Pick
Amid BJP’s silence, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has named Ramesh Bidhuri as the BJP’s CM face. However, the BJP maintains that no decision has been made yet. Bidhuri, contesting from the Kalkaji seat against Delhi CM Atishi, downplayed the speculation.

Top Contenders for Delhi CM Post
With BJP securing a decisive victory, several prominent leaders have emerged as frontrunners for the Chief Minister’s post. Here are the top five probable candidates:
Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma
Former MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma has gained prominence after his remarkable victory over AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat. As the son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, he has been hailed as a “giant killer,” breaking through Kejriwal’s stronghold and positioning himself as a serious contender for the top post.

Vijender Gupta
A seasoned BJP leader, Vijender Gupta has served as Delhi BJP chief and held the Rohini seat consistently, winning in both 2015 and 2020 despite AAP’s dominance. His tenure as leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly highlights his experience and strategic insights, making him a strong candidate for Chief Minister.
Majinder Singh Sirsa
Sirsa, BJP’s candidate from Rajouri Garden Vidhan Sabha constituency, secured a crucial victory over AAP’s Dhanwati Chandela in the 2025 Delhi Assembly election. His growing influence in Delhi and Punjab politics makes him a top name for the Chief Ministerial role, as the BJP aims to expand its presence in Punjab.
Dushyant Gautam
BJP’s national general secretary and prominent Dalit leader Dushyant Gautam is another strong contender. Contesting from Karol Bagh against AAP’s Vishesh Ravi, Gautam has significant grassroots support, which strengthens his claim to the Chief Minister’s post.

Making his electoral debut, Khurana comes from a strong political lineage as the son of former Delhi CM Madan Lal Khurana. Having served in multiple roles within the BJP’s Delhi unit, his leadership experience makes him a potential choice for the Chief Minister’s role.
With BJP’s triumphant return to Delhi’s political landscape, the focus now shifts to governance and fulfilling campaign promises. The party has emphasized development, infrastructure, and good governance as key priorities. The final decision on the Chief Minister is expected soon, with BJP’s central leadership set to make the call.
