On September 30, Putin had announced annexation of four areas ofUkraine. The Russian President made announcement to this effect after holding ‘referendums’ last week.

Russian President Valdimir Putin had on August 21 announced a partial mobilisation in the country.

It is reported that youths are fleeing the country and finding it difficult to get flight tickets, and a huge cavalcade of cars have piled up on the border with Georgia to cross over into that country to avoid the military services.

On earlier occasions, New Delhi has abstained at the UN Security Council on Ukraine, much to the annoyance of the Western powers led by the United States.

Since Ukraine is engaged in war with Russia, President Zelensky has been asking its envoys to drum up international support. The President has also been seeking military aid on various internatio0nal platforms and has been seeking support of European countries to counter Russian invasion.

Although Zelenskyy had categorically rejected the projection that the capital city of Kyiv will fall within less than a week, people from outside were in serious doubt.

Moscow on Thursday morning said that its Moskva missile cruiser, a guided missile cruiser of the Navy stationed in the Black Sea Flagship, has been “crippled badly due to an explosion”.

Ukraine accused Russia of a “deliberate massacre” in the town of Bucha, 30 kilometer (19 miles) north-west of the capital city of Kyiv. Bucha Mayor Anatoly Fedoruk told the media on Saturday that 280 bodies were buried in mass graves.

American President Joe Biden, in his address to US troops in Poland, has called Vladimir Putin a “butcher” who “cannot remain in power”. He also asked western countries to stand together.

The Ukrainian president requested NATO on Thursday to provide Kyiv with unrestricted military aid. “To save people and our cities, Ukraine needs military assistance without restrictions. In the same way that Russia is using its full arsenal without restrictions against us,” he told NATO representatives.
