The arrest of Rahul Karamveer Jat, a 30-year-old resident of Rohtak, Haryana, has revealed a chilling spree of crimes across multiple states in less than a month. Apprehended on November 24 at Vapi Railway Station in Gujarat, Jat faces charges of rape, murder, and robbery, including the gruesome assault and killing of a 19-year-old woman in Valsad, Gujarat.

Police investigations have linked Jat to at least four murders and several loots committed on trains and at railway stations in Karnataka, West Bengal, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. The details are harrowing:

Gujarat: Jat raped and killed the 19-year-old victim near Udvada railway station on November 14 while she was returning home from tuition.

Telangana: A day before his arrest, he allegedly looted and murdered a woman near Secunderabad railway station.

Maharashtra: In October, he raped and murdered another woman on a train near Solapur railway station.

West Bengal: He stabbed an elderly man to death on the Katihar Express near Howrah.

Karnataka: He murdered a train passenger in Mulki, a town near Mangalore.

Modus Operandi

Jat targeted vulnerable individuals, often traveling alone in train coaches meant for differently-abled passengers. He looted, raped, and killed his victims, often fleeing immediately to another state. He lived a transient lifestyle, sleeping on railway platforms and traveling extensively to evade capture.

A massive inter-state police operation involving 2,000 CCTV cameras led to his capture. Crucial footage showed him near the scene of the Valsad crime, eating calmly after the heinous act.

The NDTV quoted Superintendent of Police Karanraj Vaghela who said, “Jat traveled extensively and kept changing his location. We found he was involved in at least four cases of loot and murder.”

Jat’s photograph matched a national database, revealing he had been released earlier this year from Jodhpur Central Jail, where he was imprisoned for robbery.

A Troubled Past

Jat’s family disowned him years ago, and his father has passed away. A Class 5 dropout, he began a life of crime early, accumulating 13 FIRs across Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities are investigating Jat’s full criminal history, and forensic examinations are underway for his alleged crimes. With his arrest, police hope to provide justice to the victims and their families while also addressing safety concerns on Indian railways.
