The Pune Police have booked the father and grandfather of a teenager involved in the May 19 car accident in a separate case of abetment of suicide of a local businessman’s son, officials announced on Friday.
Local businessman D S Kature filed a complaint accusing the teenager’s father, grandfather, and three others of driving his son, Shashikant Kature, to suicide in January.
According to the complaint, Shashikant committed suicide after continuous harassment from an accused individual from whom he had taken a loan for his construction business, which he was unable to repay.
Following the suicide, the police registered a case of abetment against the teenager’s father under IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at the Chandannagar police station.

A senior police official stated, “During the ongoing car accident investigation, the teen’s grandfather approached the police, and the roles of the juvenile’s father, grandfather, and three others surfaced in the abetment of suicide case.
Consequently, Pune police included the accused’s father, grandfather, and three others in the abetment of suicide FIR at the Chandannagar Police Station, adding sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.”
In connection with the car accident case, the accused’s father is currently in police custody for allegedly manipulating blood samples. Meanwhile, the grandfather is in judicial custody following his arrest for allegedly abducting the family driver and attempting to coerce him into taking responsibility for the accident instead of the minor grandson.

The car accident, which occurred on May 19, resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals who were struck by the teenager’s luxury car while traveling on a bike. The minor has been detained at an observation home by order of the Juvenile Justice Board. Although he was initially granted bail, he was later sent to the observation home for 14 days, until June 5.
The Pune Police continue to investigate both the car accident and the abetment of suicide cases, scrutinizing the involvement of all accused parties.
